DMSTA2   Enhancements D R A F T 05/23/2005
DMSTA2 (April 2005) contains the following enhancements relative to DMSTA (April 2002).
The enhancements were supported by the Department of the Interior & U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Cell Configurations
Maximum cells in a given case increased from 6 to 12.
Specification of a header cell to distribute inflow across multiple cell paths.
Outlet hydraulics modified to include an offset depth for simulation of weir outflow structures
Seepage return routed to any cell (vs. source cell only)
Option to specify constant water depth
Test for convergence of solution (indep of initial conditions, seepage recycle, etc.)
Specification of  depths and up to 3 outflow daily time series per cell to facilitate reservoir simulation:
Depths user-specified daily series or simulated by water budget & outlet hydraulics
Outflow user-specified daily series or simulated by water budget & outlet hydraulics
Release 1 user-specified daily series (from independent model)
Release 2 user-specified daily series (from independent model)
Networks of Reservoirs and/or STA's  (R/STA's) for regional analysis
For linked R/STA's with multiple watersheds & basin runoff time series
R/STA bypass, releases, and/or outflow routed to other R/STA's or out of system.
P Cycling Model Enhancements
Updated calibrations using data from full-scale R/STA's
Uptake saturation factor to improve simulation at high concentrations
Decline in STA performance at high water depths
Input Time Series
Multiple time series can be specified in a given project file.
Time series data can be started on any row of the input series worksheet.
Time series can contain user-specified depth or outflow time series for any cell
Specification of a scale factor to modify watershed inflow concentrations
Values can be specified in a variety of units, specified in heading row with 'Date' in Col A
Flow cfs, acre-ft, hm3, m3
Conc ppb, ppm, mg/l, ug/l
Rain, ET in, cm, mm
Depth ft, in, m, cm
Program output remains in metric units (hm3, kg, cm)
Reads & runs input files & cases from previous DMSTA version.
Option to save output daily time series at bottom of case sheet in project file.
For exporting results to other models or other purposes.
Output enhancements:
Sheet Enhancement
PlotAny plot time series for user-specified cell (vs. last cell only)
Yearly summary of combined outflows by water year
Cases improved summary of output for each case in a given project
CasePlot compare case results in a given project for user-specified variable
OutputSeries contains inflows, outflows, & depths for each cell
Operation Enhancements:
Project file selected from menu from a user-specified index
Test mode for running case with short time series (1 year, 1 iter) to check case parameters
Batch mode for running & saving all cases in a given project
Test mode for testing all cases in a given project
User can press 'Esc' to stop simulation
Improved error trapping & messages
Features Eliminated:
Previous reservoir algorithm replaced
Output 5-year rolling average time series
Sensitivity & error analysis (simpler version suggested for future development)
Input time series must be specified in the project file (not copied from DMSTA sheet)
A separate workbook 'DMRSTA_TOOLS.XLS' contains worksheets to assist in setting up cases:
Computing hydraulic parameters for various outlet characteristics and units
weir
wetland - modified mannings (kadlec & knight, 1996)
generalized power function (outflow vs. depth)
generalized outflow vs. depth table
Computing seepage parameters using levee seepage model
An input file 'PROJECT_EXAMPLES.XLS" demonstrates various R/STA & network configurations.
